Jasper Fforde, The Big Over Easy
Viking (2005) ISBN: 0-670-03423-1
Score: 2
Not part of the Thursday Next series, though most of the cast appeared in The Well of Lost Plots (which I didn't notice while reading; but then, I really didn't like WoLP). This is the start of a new series, and despite being about nursery rhyme characters living in England, it's still less fanciful than the other series (no time travel or parallel worlds). Well written and amusing, but I never really warmed to the characters. And I suspect the author hasn't realized yet that most anti-cliches have become cliches in their own right by now. And some day I hope he manages an entire novel with the same level of wit found in his chapter quotes.
