Start of a YA epic fantasy series written by a teenager (and it shows). The reason you don't see child prodigy novelists is that immature writers can't write convincing mature characters. If there's anything original in this book, I didn't see it in the first couple chapters, and there's only so much awkward (and just plain bad) prose I'm willing to put up with.
