Forge (2005) ISBN: 0-765-31275-1
Score: 2

Ninth Repairman Jack book (series starts with The Tomb), in which we finally meet the last of his family: brother Tom (but still no hint what his real last name is). The stress of recent and current events puts Jack a bit off his game, but otherwise this book is typical.

Next Book: MaryJanice Davidson, Undead and Unreturnable

I'm not familiar with the series. Can you say something about it?

Jack is a professional vigilante in NYC dealing with SFnal threats. The short story "A Day in the Life"[1] provides a good taste of what Jack's life is like, but doesn't have any SF elements. The Tomb is a suspense/thriller urban fantasy (set in the 1980's in the first edition, 90s in the second, retitled Rakoshi in the third). Legacies is basically science fiction, Conspiracies is horror and firmly ties Jack into the Adversary cycle. Here are my booklog entries for the rest of the series.

[1] Found in The Barrons and Others and Stalker.

Here's what the author says about the Adversary Cycle and internal chronology of Jack/Adversary, and here's the story crossreference chart (which doesn't make any sense to me).

I see there's another Jack short story available from Amazon. I should pick that up sometime.
