Keri Arthur, "Christmas Past"
Ace (2008) ISBN: 978-0-441-01633-4
Score: 1

A psychic and her werewolf ex-boyfriend try to catch a vampire who is killing charity collectors. Does not seem to be connected to any of her series.

Fifth book of the Gaurdian series, dealing with two unrelated cases of serial killers of women. I don't think I'll be reading any more of these; the setting (and heroine) have too many supernatural abilities for my suspension of disbelief (is this the first time we've been told that the Jenson pack is naturally clairvoyant?).

Keri Arthur, Dangerous Games

Score: 2

Fourth book of the Guardian series, this time adding demons and sorcery to the setting (though I don't expect them to be recurring elements). For a change, it didn't end with a treat hanging over the heroine's head, and it tied up a couple plot threads from previous books.

Third Guardian novel, in which no one is trying to get the heroine pregnant. She and her brother get a taste of the what the other's life is like, and she suddenly develops powerful psychic skills and starts seeing ghosts (rarely a good sign).

Second Guardian book, and just like the first with more monsters (but just as much sex).

Score: 2

First in the Guardian series, a near-future dark urban fantasy starring a vampire werewolf heroine who works for a government agency responsible for keeping non-humans from causing trouble. It's short (less than 300 pages) and fast-paced with lots of sex, violence, sex, manipulation, sex, secret research, and sex.

Next Book: Jonathan Stroud, Ptolemy's Gate (unless the library loses my copy again)
