Patrick Rothfuss, The Name of the Wind
Daw (2007) ISBN: 978-0-7564-0407-9
Score: 1.5

Start of the Kingslayer trilogy, in which the hero Kvothe (now retired and running an inn), begins to narrate his life story. This would be a great book for people who haven't read much epic fantasy, but I would've liked it better if it did more subverting of tropes and twisting of cliches, and if the hero wasn't the Best Singer, Greatest Musician, Powerfullest Wizard, etc. I normally don't read cover blurbs, but in this case the text on the flaps is accurate and non-spoiler, because it's a direct quote from early in the story.
