Conclusion of the Secret Texts trilogy, in which love conquers nearly everything (after about a million innocent people die).

Another Ethshar book, this is mainly a prequel, taking place before all the others except Misenchanted Sword (and possibly Taking Flight; I'm reading that next). If you've read the books set later, you already know that the title refers to the night warlockry was introduced to the World. Needless to say, we learn a lot about warlockry in this book. We also see how the Wizards' Guild works, and get to see its Inner Circle. This isn't a bad place to start; in fact, the other books reveal certain aspects of warlockry that are learned the hard way in this book.

Next Book: Terry Pratchett, Thud!

F. Paul Wilson, Reborn
Dark Harvest (1990) ISBN: 0-913165-52-2
Score: 1.5

The second novel of his Adversary Cycle, this one is more solidly in the Horror genre and lacks the sappy ending of The Keep. It gains a point for having sympathetic characters on both sides of the conflict, but loses a point for killing most of the cast without resolving much of anything. I read this in the hopes of learning more about certain characters (the Lady and the Twins) mentioned in the Repairman Jack novel Conspiracies, but sadly, they aren't mentioned in this book.

This is a prequel to her "___ Of Magics" books, and can be read as a stand alone. It's a fairly quiet tale of an apprentice artist who gets mixed up in a necromantic attempt to usurp the crown.
